just a small town girl...

I used to think being from a small town was like being labled a lepor, but in the last few days I've realized I was all too wrong. You see, I just moved from a small town in South Eastern Ohio to the city of Louisville, Kentucky. Now, I know what you're thinking, Louisville isn't New York and it isn't Chicago, nor is it LA. So, to put this into perspective for you, I moved from a town called Athens, with a population of around 20,000 people. Mind you that includes it's student population from the local college, Ohio University. I've lived in Athens my entire life. In order to go to a decent mall with more than 3 actual stores in it, I had to drive an hour and half to Columbus, Ohio. When I was younger the only restaurants to choose from were Bob Evans, Pizza Hut, and the typical fast food chain, McDonalds. I know this sounds like many typical towns, but I had never been to a big city until the past year when I visited my ex-boyfriend in Chicago. It was like the first time you realize your attraction to the opposite or same sex. Suddenly, what you once knew has been replaced by this overwhelming feeling of joy and excitement. You can't get enough and it's all you can do to keep yourself from exploding. All of a sudden I was experiencing sights and sounds and shopping experiences I never thought possible in my wildest dreams. Walking down Michigan Avenue was like a dream come true. I started imagining myself living there. For awhile it seemed possible, but unfortunately things don't always work out the way we hoped (did I mention my ex-boyfriend). But we'll leave that story for another time. So, I have now finally made a move to a big city, Louisville. Needless to say it's not the bright lights, and fairy tale dream that I orignally thought it would be. Not only am I in shock of the difference of living in a small town to moving to a big city, but did I mention I'm living with my 26 year old brother and his wife? That I'm currently unemployed? That I'm a 23, single, prospective teacher, looking for love and a career in new city? Well, sit back and enjoy the ride, it's sure to be full of ups and downs. Join me won't you?
